Macklin Qualifies for Mile on Touchstone Energy Night at Macon Speedway
By Brett Zerfowski
(Macon, IL) A huge show for the Touchstone Energy Sportsman occurred on Saturday with the sponsor of the division in house to watch the near 30-car division run for a $500-to-win first-place prize. Argenta’s Nick Macklin, who has spent his recent time in Late Models, got back behind the Sportsman and dominated the 20-car field. Through early cautions, Macklin made his passes to the lead and started stretching it out over Rick Roedel, who drives a car sponsored by Touchstone Energy, and Dave Crawley, Jr. Multi-time feature winner this season Dennis Vandermeersch had problems with his car on the second lap and was forced into the infield.
Macklin would win the 20-lap race and qualify for the Springfield Mile Sportsman’s Nationals race during the Illinois State Fair. Along with him were Roedel, Crawley, Jr., and Norm Wood. Judy Cole of Remax of Springfield donated an additional $200 to the finisher of the dice roll, which was rolled a six by Macklin, and Ryan Blair got the money.
Joe Strawkus won his first feature race of 2010 after a disappointing start to the season. Strawkus, driver of the white 28 Modified, looked much like Late Model driver Dennis Erb, Jr., from Thursday’s Herald & Review 100, as he followed the low groove the entire race, leading all 20 laps and beating current points leader and defending champion Dave Crawley, Jr.
Another race for the POWRi Micro Sprints in the 2010 Summer of Fan 11-Race Summer Series took place at Macon Speedway Saturday with Paul Nienhiser of Chapin locking up the feature win after getting past Keith Garner and staying ahead of Bubba Altig.
There was another Wilson in victory lane in the Pro Hornets class. Jim Wilson had has the glory of the checkered flag for the previous two features but this time his son Eric would take the honors and claim his third feature of the 2010 season. In the Amateur Hornet feature, Garrett Lewis won his second feature event of the year.
After a span of four race nights in seven, Macon Speedway takes some time off to prepare for two Big Ten Series races, one for the Street Stocks and one for the Late Models. UMP Modifieds, Pro and Amateur Hornets will also be apart of the Christmas in July Toy Drive evening.

Babb Dominates at Fairbury; Feger Gains in Standings
Jul 13th
FAIRBURY, IL – July 10, 2010 - Shannon Babb powered his way to a $10,000 victory on Saturday night at Fairbury American Legion Speedway, tightening the overall DIRTcar Summer Nationals standings entering the final week of Hell Tour action. More pictures at http://www.facebook.com/WorldRacing While Babb was trying to hold off the field on the 22nd night of the Hell Tour, series leader Dennis Erb Jr. had a right rear tire go down late in the feature, dropping him to 14th. It was also costly in his quest for a fourth consecutive DIRTcar Summer Nationals crown. Jason Feger capitalized on Erb’s misfortune and drove to a fourth-place finish. Feger now has a slim 10-point lead in the Summer Nationals standings after trailing Erb by 13 points entering Fairbury. Matt Miller was second on Saturday night, followed by Ryan Unzicker, Feger and Jeep Van Wormer. Up next for the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Tour is a visit to Quincy Raceways on Sunday July 11, 2010. In total the Hell Tour has traveled over 4,100 miles in the course of 25 nights. The trip from Fairbury, Ill., to Quincy Raceways in Quincy, Ill., will have drivers traveling over 210 miles west to the track, where feature winner Babb won in 2009. Events at Spoon River Speedway (Monday), Peoria Speedway (Tuesday), Kokomo Speedway (Wednesday), Attica Raceway Park (Friday) and Oakshade Raceway (Saturday) are also left to decide who will be the 2010 DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour champion.
